DUA SALEH CAT SCRATCH

A couple of weeks ago, Minneapolis artist dua saleh shared the poignant ‘body cast’ in response to the death of George Floyd, and in remembrance of many more who have died as a result of senseless police brutality. Now the non-binary Muslim creative has dropped new EP, ROSETTA. It’s a collection of that shows the various facets to dua saleh’s artistry, whether that be the alternative guitar track ‘umbrellar’, minimalist narrative in ‘bankrupt’, floating experimentalism of ‘windhymn’, ‘catscratch’’s direct wordsmithery, purposeful use of vocal warping in ‘smut’ or the grungey bass of ‘hellbound’. As a blog, that’s supposed to focus on a singular song, it’s really, really difficult for us to pick a favourite, so let’s just go from the top of the EP and say it’s ‘catscratch’, for the sake of the title. By the way, if you’d like to get to know dua saleh more while listening to this unbelievably good EP, check out their interview with Them. - Hannah Thacker
